workshops.bad-architect.network is a sub-label of bad-architects.network for student workshops within the envelope of bad-architects.network organized by its members. The unique situation of network collaboration and the resulting access to the individual knowledge, culture, consultancy and capacity of the different members in Asia, America and Europe, holding current or future teaching positions, will be a unique benefit to the workshops.

bad-architects.network is an emerging internet-based network of young architects, founded in May 2004. Currently the network has seventeen members in North America, Asia and Europe. The network attempts to find experimental methods of collaboration which reinforce the exchange between architects. The team composition varies from project to project: e.g. the project DE-tro-IT was developed by members in Innsbruck and Oslo. A different project, the Berlin library competition was developed by four cells in Austria, Norway, France and Italy. Each cell also acts independently on a regional/local basis with own projects, whereas a BAD-project has to be developed by at least two cells.

Next to designing projects within the network, bad-architects.network is devoted to developing new tools for exploring the phenomena of the urban condition and has exhibited and published several projects. Alongside classical urban development projects like ‚Stadtwerke Areal‘ in Salzburg, Austria or ‚Arctic Gradient‘ in Akureyri, Iceland members of bad-architects.network has worked on the topic of the relation between the physical city and it’s manifested image influenced by media. Examples include projects like “DE-tro-IT”, a shrinking cities project, “The POWER of the UNESCO world heritage”, a project for the 3rd Architecture Biennale Rotterdam or ‚Operation Haparanda‘, a project for the 3rd Oslo Triennale in Norway last year.

An important factor in our approach is the work with networks and the idea that cities in the 21th century are not self-enclosed but form a network of social, economical and cultural relations with the region and are under constant influence of global processes, however always keeping in mind, to scale those ideas also down to the very local needs and local culture.

Against this backdrop the workshops.bad-architects.network means not only putting our exceptional design ability and the professional experience at the service of academic institutions but also moreover enriching the academic development of the students by enabling them to meet students from abroad and working together with them on urban topics relevant in the current and future situation of cities creating a network of young architects. We are looking for partner institutions, who would like to organize workshops in collaboration with bad-architects.network. Therfore please do not hesitate to get in contact with us:
