Evolutionary myths
Political devices for town pla(y/nn)ing
“Evolutionary myths” is a political and recreational tool for creating new collective myths.
It’s made by a set of basic rules (constitutional kosovarian values), objects (cards which represent people, social groups, functions, wishes, places, ecosystems, etc.) and relational operators (quantitative, temporal, spatial, directional, emotional, etc.).
In children, it stimulates creative associations within the scope of shared kosovarian values.
In politics, it promotes transparency in decisional processes and visualization of different relations implied in whatever process of transformation.
Both projects try to stimulate the dawn of future narrations based on the acknowledgement of relations among people, objects and environment.
Possible myths
When personal expectations about change are shared within a community, there might rise new collective narrations: the myth of cultural renaissance, the American dream, the access to a high educational system, the option of basic infrastructure for wellbeing. These are shared fragments of more complex narrations which can act at urban scale before stratifying in collective memory.
One of the possible myths: Balloons
“Balloons” is a project about managing cultural activities in Prishtina.
It’s made by a fixed element (cultural headquarter) and a variable number of energetic landmarks (Magenn helium rotors).
By cooperating with political institutions and citizens, the cultural headquarter chooses the events to be sponsored and estimate their energetic request. A Magenn rotor starts “colleting” locally the energy for the happening and, doing so, it begins the promotion of the manifestation at the urban scale. The rotor, suspended at 300m height, stresses the activation of an area and determines the type of activity trough a simple colour code; additional information can be displayed by LED moving tags, placed directly on the tether. When the event has expired, the rotor is assigned to another cultural point.
In the passing of time, we can imagine the variations of these cultural and luminous landscapes.
All those datas will get stratified in personal memory as it happens with retinic images and, from them, people will begin structuring new kosovarian myths
